Oil prices peaked at $120/barrel on March 8th, almost double the $72/barrel price before the war

The Truce

Iran and the US have agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire. The Strait of Hormuz will open and ships will be taxed while they negotiate Iran’s 10-point peace plan:

An American guarantee of nonaggression with Iran.
Iran maintains control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Ending the regional war on all fronts, including against Iran’s ally, Hezbollah, in Lebanon.
Withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from all bases and positions in the region.
Reparations to Iran for war damages.
Acceptance of Iran’s right to nuclear enrichment.
Lifting all primary sanctions on Iran.
Lifting all secondary sanctions on Iran.
Termination of all resolutions against Iran by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Termination of all United Nations Security Council resolutions against Iran.

In the aftermath, the terrorist state of Israel is still massacring the people of Lebanon. Netanyahu said that Lebanon would not be included in the ceasefire, and kept his promise today by bombing the country, killing at least 254 people and wounding more than 1,165. The US and its ally Israel are notorious liars and criminals. We cannot let our guard down and expect them to uphold this truce.

The Task Ahead of Us

The US must pay for the devastation it has caused Iran over the last month. Full of imperialist arrogance and bluster, Trump imagined a quick military campaign that would decisively secure US interests in the region, mainly Iran’s oil and the end of the Islamic Republic, and failed spectacularly.

The US unleashed its attack dog, Israel, to do its dirty work. In fact, the US continues to rely on Israel to carry out its dirty work after accepting this truce, so that, in effect, the US can officially “withdraw” while keeping the war machine turning.

The last month of imperialist brutality, Trump’s threat to destroy an entire civilization, and the irreparable damage caused to Iran, is unfortunately just the latest in a 250-year history of atrocities.

That’s 250 years too many.

No politician will put an end to these brutalities, no policy can undo the web of control that the US has over the globe. The truth is, only ridding ourselves of this system altogether will serve as justice to the people of the world.
