Just days after agreeing to a conditional two-week ceasefire, US and Iranian negotiators left Islamabad without a deal.
With the ceasefire set to expire on April 22, the talks’ collapse has pushed millions back toward the threat of more bombs, displacement, and death.
The ceasefire was meant to open the Strait of Hormuz and create space to negotiate Iran’s 10-point peace plan, including:
- an end to US aggression,
- withdrawal of US troops from the region,
- reparations for war damages,
- & recognition of Iran’s right to nuclear enrichment.
Instead, US officials arrived demanding concessions from the very country they spent the last month bombing.
Washington wants to cast Iran as the obstacle to peace. But the facts are clear:
The US and Israel ignited this war of aggression, flattened homes and apartment blocks in Tehran, struck hospitals and civilian infrastructure, killed more than 2,000 people, including 200 schoolgirls, & drove families into displacement & grief.
Now, after over a month of bombing, sanctions, and economic strangulation, the US sat at the negotiating table demanding that Iran surrender the sovereignty it just tried to bomb into submission.
The collapse of the Islamabad talks makes it clear that the US has not abandoned its war on Iran.
Even under the ceasefire, the US continues to rely on Israel to carry out its dirty work, bombing Lebanon, allowing Washington to posture as pursuing peace while keeping the war machine running.
The Task Ahead of Us
The last month of imperialist brutality, Trump’s threat to destroy an entire civilization, and the irreparable damage caused to Iran, is just the latest in a 250-year history of atrocities.
No politician will put an end to these brutalities, no policy can undo the web of control that the US has over the globe. The truth is, only ridding ourselves of this system altogether will serve as justice to the people of the world.
Join us to protest 250 years of empire this year on the 4th of July in Philadelphia!
All empires fall… Sometimes they need a push.
