On June 21st, Donald Trump, the braying head of this decrepit empire, announced that the US had joined Israel in its war of aggression against Iran. The US-Israel belligerence comes wrapped in red white and blue hypocrisy: two nuclear armed terrorist states who are currently partnering in the modern day holocaust in Gaza, bombing Iran’s civilian energy infrastructure, murdering military leaders and scientists alike. 

The US has never had any respect for the sovereignty of Iran or for the lives of its people. US imperialists overthrew the democratic government of Mohammad Mosaddegh in 1953, returning the hated monarch, the Shah, to power. When the Shah was overthrown in the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the US moved to punish Iran, imposing sanctions and diplomatically isolating the country, and playing both sides of the Iran-Iraq war to advance US imperial interests. To this day, US warships stalk the seas surrounding Iran, while its bombs arm the Israeli war machine. 

For more than 20 months the US imperialists have co-signed every action of the genocidal Netanyahu government. Both Trump and Genocide Joe Biden have maintained the open spigot of weapons and funding to ensure that every last demented IOF soldier can have his or her turn slaughtering a Palestinian child. The US and Israel are nuclear armed terrorist states, with no respect for human life, international law, or sovereignty. While committing a modern day holocaust in Gaza, endorsing pogroms and land grabs in the West Bank, having murdered thousands in Lebanon and Syria, they now turn their attention to Iran. 

It has been a decades long project of the US imperialists to remake the Middle East and North Africa into a region that is safe for imperialist interests, to plunder the resources, and subjugate any nations or people who get in the way. The current face of that project is coalescing around the vision for a “Greater Israel”, combining the most unhinged and genocidal visions of the Zionists, with the strategic horizons of the US imperialists, outsourcing their control over the region to an unholy alliance of Israel and the Gulf monarchies. The US-Israel assault on Iran is a key part of this plan, alongside the Gaza genocide, and the creation of subservient Syria, all with the cost of hundreds of thousands of human lives. 

The US-Israel war machine has demonstrated a world historic ability to generate human misery, to poison ecosystems, to create orphans, and to slaughter people from the sky.  What these Trump-Biden-Netanyahu schemes never count on is the masses of people. After 20 months of genocide, 77 years after the Nakba, the Palestinian people have not been subjugated. The people of Yemen have continued their brave defiance of the US-Saudi devastation and in support of the people of Gaza. 

People who live in the US have a responsibility as well. We can go along with the program, making our own little objections about constitutional procedure, talk about burnout, obsess about safety. Or people who live in the US can, finally, take the side of the people of the world. The past years have given us a few glimpses of what anti-imperialists looks like- from the people who have taken actual risks to end the Gaza genocide, to the rebels of LA putting their bodies on the line to stop ICE kidnappings. That spirit of rebellion is urgently needed now, against the US-Israel war machine and it’s ongoing threats to life itself.
