January 29, 2024 – Tel al-Hawa, Gaza City. A day that will be remembered with grief and outrage. One year ago today, Israeli occupation forces brutally murdered six-year-old Hind Rajab, her family, and the aid workers who tried to rescue her. Hind’s desperate plea for help, captured in a haunting phone call to the Red Crescent, echoed around the world.

“I am so scared. Call someone to get me, please… The night is approaching, I am scared. Please come take me.”

For two agonizing weeks, Hind’s fate remained unknown. When rescuers finally reached the scene, they found her murdered alongside those of her aunt, uncle, and cousins—executed in their vehicle, riddled with over 300 bullet holes. The aid workers who had set out to save her, Yousef Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun, were also killed, their ambulance obliterated by an airstrike.

Hind’s murder became a defining moment in the US-Israel genocide in Gaza. The split between the people of the world and the impunity of imperial powers was exposed. Israel initially denied responsibility. The United States continued its unwavering political, financial, and military support. Western media sanitized the atrocity with passive language. And, for millions around the world, Hind’s death became a symbol of resistance. That spring, as student encampments popped up across the US, some of the most heroic protesters at Columbia University occupied a building and renamed it Hind’s hall.

We don’t know how many children were slaughtered during the US-Israel genocide on Gaza. Reliable sources indicate that the number is well-over 10,000 and probably considerably higher. 10,000 children robbed of a childhood. 10,000 children not allowed to grow up. 10,000 Hind Rajab’s.

Today, Hind should be a thriving seven-year-old—playing dress-up, attending school, and laughing with her cousins. Instead, we are left only with her memory and the harrowing reality of her deliberate execution. Despite global outrage over the murder of a six-year-old child, those responsible walk free.

The United States remains in lockstep with Israel and its genocidal war, supplying billions in funding, weapons, and unwavering political support. US politicians bear direct responsibility for the atrocities in Gaza. Joe Biden’s presidency, marked by bloodshed from Hind to Yousef and Ahmed, ended not in reckoning but with a vacation in California. Kamala Harris, after months of campaigning on a platform of steadfast support for Israel, all the while Netanyahu’s massacres continued unchecked, now plots her next political move. A book deal? A run for governor?

The Biden administration’s legacy is one of endless war crimes—atrocity after atrocity, culminating in complicity in genocide. If justice were served, they would face a Nuremberg-style trial. But the past year since Hind’s murder has made one thing abundantly clear: justice will not come from those in power. It will not be won through petitions, votes, or social media posts. It will come through organized resistance from the people of the world. To honor Hind, join us in choosing the world.

Hind Rajab. Never forgive. Never forget.
