Written by SJS LLP, the legal representation for this case.
Last year, SJS LLP proudly joined the Chicago chapter of the National Lawyers Guild to provide pro bono legal defense for protesters charged with misdemeanors during the Democratic National Convention.
Since October, the @nlgchicago and its partner attorneys and firms have represented over 500 individuals—free of charge—in the ongoing fight for justice and civil rights.
Today, we’re proud to share that our partner, Latiera Scott-Johnson, secured a trial victory for one of those clients—an individual arrested while protesting in support of the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.
This trial was one for the books! We dealt with everything from officers lying under oath to a hot tempered judge. Despite the challenges, our advocacy and the truth prevailed.
Special thanks to our amazing co-counsel, Radhe Patel, to @anti_imperialist_resistance for their continued fight for justice, and all the other lawyers at the NLG and across Chicago involved in getting justice for these clients.
This case is a powerful reminder: protest is not a crime. Speaking out against injustice is not only a right—it is a responsibility. We stand with those who raise their voices in solidarity, and we remain steadfast in defending them.
