Donald Trump’s ICE Gestapo murdered a man today in the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park. The 38-year-old man, identified as Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, was supposedly stopped by ICE thugs because of his history of “reckless driving.” The ICE pigs have already issued their version of events, justifying their attempted kidnapping and murder, and even blaming social media posts that inform immigrants of their rights. Whatever details emerge, what is clear is that the life of Silvierio Villegas-Gonzalez was stolen by the ICE Gestapo, who gave him the death penalty for being an immigrant and driving.

Who has whose back?

It seems that, for now, Donald Trump is backing off his threats to send the National Guard to this region, instead unleashing the fascist “Operation Midway Blitz” to terrorize and kidnap immigrants. While J.B. Pritzker and Brandon Johnson are taking a victory lap for preventing the Guard from coming, the dirty work is happening under their noses. Activists and religious leaders have boldly confronted the ICE processing center in Broadview, Illinois, temporarily impeding vehicles and exposing the moral rot of this crackdown, alongside those people documenting ICE-Gestapo activity. Besides press conferences, what have Pritzker and Johnson done to actually defend immigrants or force these murdering thugs out of Illinois?

The empire is the enemy!

It’s no coincidence that Trump’s immigration crackdown is running parallel with his saber-rattling in Latin America, which resulted in the deaths of 11 people on a boat from Venezuela. US imperialism is the root cause of mass migration to the US in the first place. The crisis is not the people fleeing the horrors of US imperialism. The crisis is US imperialism! We welcome immigrants, migrants, and refugees because we don’t respect the borders of this country, which were built through conquest and theft, and because we stand with the people of the world, not the rulers of this country.
