For more than three weeks, T Hoxa, a political prisoner in the UK held without trial, has been on hunger strike in Peterborough prison.

She has been in the prison, run by Sodexo, since November 2024, accused of participating in Palestine Action. The Crown Prosecution Service (yes, it’s really called that) is planning on charging her with “a terrorist connection” and has scheduled her trial for April 2026. This amounts to 17 months of legal kidnapping by a clownish monarchy, for allegedly standing up to genocide.

Hoxa reports that her treatment worsened when she was transferred to Peterborough prison, following the UK’s designation of Palestine Action as a terrorist group. This absurd designation, which makes it illegal to hold a sign saying “I Support Palestine Action”, is being used to justify a wider crackdown on all anti-genocide expression in the UK, including direct repression against the dozens of people in the UK’s jails who are accused of participation in Palestine Action. For Hoxa’s part, her demands are for basic dignity: an end to the censorship of her mail (a demand that has been met) and the restoration of her job in the library.

Hoxa’s hunger strike is being joined by Casey Goonan, a political prisoner in California, imprisoned for taking action in support of Palestine. When he began his hunger strike, he gave the following statement:

“As captives imprisoned for our participation in the Palestinian liberation movement in the west, we have a responsibility to each other across borders to pursue our lives in prison with the same steadfastness as the Palestinian Prisoners movement held captive in Israeli prisons. The states we have been captured by are the enablers of the Zionist entity’s accelerated genocide of Palestinians, as well as the ongoing genocides of black and indigenous people whose lands they continue to occupy As the Western left continues to move from crisis to crisis, avoiding their responsibilities to Palestine, we are all that we have. By ‘we’ I am referring to people facing repression for their support for Palestine, the people who are truly sacrificing. Such as T. Hoxha, who has suffered through 16 days of starvation just to get her mail. The Palestine solidarity movement in the west cannot abandon people like her who have risked their lives and continue to do so in resistance to the intolerable condition of genocide.”

We encourage everyone reading this to take action on behalf of T. Hoxa! Visit the toolkit for T. Hoxa that supporters have made available (link in bio), spread news of the hunger strike far and wide, and flood the embassies and consulates of the UK and offices of Sodexo and their shareholders with righteous protest.

Victory to the hunger strikers!
