US bombs continue to reign down on Yemen

On March 15th, US Navy warplanes began a systematic bombing campaign of northern Yemen. To date, starting from March 15th, there have been 34 airstrikes conducted by the US military on Yemeni soil, killing at least 53 people in the process.

Why?

On October 19th, 2023, Ansar Allah, the governing party of Yemen, instituted a blockade of the Red Sea and began conducting drone strikes on Israel in response to the Israeli genocide of the people of Gaza. Around a third of the world’s shipping flows through the Red Sea; those cargo vessels that would have otherwise traversed the Suez Canal have been forced to divert west around the entirety of Africa, adding significant time and expense and thereby hurting profit margins.

Obviously, the Capitalist-Imperialist government of the United States cannot allow such a gross affront to stand, and responded, not by halting weapon shipments to Israel, not by ending the genocide – which they very easily could do – but by bombing the shit out of Yemen. 

No one in the establishment is talking about this. The democrats and the media are obsessed, transfixed, by the fact that, bizarrely, Jeffrey Goldberg, a noted zionist, cheerleader for the Iraq war and a columnist for The Atlantic, was, apparently accidentally, added to a signal chat with Pete Hegseth, Mike Waltz, JD Vance, and other imperialist top-dogs who were planning the aforementioned strike on Yemen.

What is more serious is the fact that Goldberg, as a result, did, in fact, have advance warning of the attack on Yemen. He knew the target – the residence of the girlfriend of an Ansar Allah official; he knew the timing – 1:45 PM on March 15th; he even knew the delivery platform – a flight of US Navy F/A 18s, MQ-9 Reaper drones, and Tomahawk cruise missiles. Goldberg was absolutely in a position to leak the plans and possibly save lives. But he didn’t – it didn’t even occur to him because he is a zionist, an apologist for empire, a consummate war hawk. 

Far more absurd is the call from Mark Kelly, US Senator from Arizona, for Mike Waltz and Pete Hegseth to resign – not because they directed terrorist attacks on a sovereign nation, but because they fat-fingered the invites to a signal chat. 

The people of Yemen nor the Palestinians in Gaza have any interest in the relative competence of US politicians, whether in the creation of signal chats or any other matter. Nor do the masses of the United States or, indeed, the people of the world. The United States, regardless of any peculiarities of the current administration, is the enemy of the World. 

Democratic hand-wringing about the Trump administration’s supposed incompetence belies their own complicity with the crimes of the US empire. The blockade of the Red Sea by Ansar Allah is concomitant with the genocide in Gaza – a crime enabled, even sponsored by the Biden-Harris White House. The initial bombing campaign, “Operation Prosperity Guardian,” was initiated by the very same. Trump represents a continuation and, admittedly, an escalation of Biden’s policies. 

The so-called “Pete Hegseth Signal chat leak controversy” is a distraction—utterly meaningless to anti-imperialists and anyone who believes no nation should be bombed for the sake of empire. Swapping out one imperial steward for another, whether delusional or competent, is not and should never be the goal for anti-imperialists in the belly of the beast. Rather, only an end to the bombardment of Yemen, the end of the genocide in Gaza, the full liberation of Palestine, and the overthrow of US imperialism constitute worthy goals.
