Allegedly No ICE at Miami Stadium and Travel Ban Bond Waivers Available for World Cup Games
The co-chair of the FIFA World Cup Miami Host’s Committee, Rodney Barreto, has shared that ICE will not be present at the stadium during the upcoming World Cup games in Miami. According Barreto, this update is relayed on behalf of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“ICE is not going to be at the stadium. This is not going to turn into some ’round them up’ type of thing. That’s not the purpose of this. It’ll be a great experience for everybody,” shared Barreto.
Earlier this year, acting director of ICE, Todd Lyons, had initially stated that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was to play a prominent role in the “security apparatus” of the World Cup.
This stirred up concern and justifiable anger from soccer fans, international team players and coaches, and the public alike, as ICE continues their brutal kidnappings and abuses reported from within detention centers where immigrants are held. The President of FIFA had even requested a pause on immigration raids during the World Cup games in the US.
Due to the current US travel bans, visitors from dozens of banned countries are required to pay a bond at outrageous costs of $5,000 (typically for children), $10,000, and $15,000. The State Department imposed these bonds in 2025 claiming to target countries who have a high rate of overstaying their visas.
Initially, the bond requirement did not allow for any exemptions, including for qualifying soccer team players and coaches. As the World Cup approaches, this has changed with waivers now available for qualifying travelers, including soccer teams and fans who have purchased tickets already, though this is not a guarantee that a visa will be granted.

US Kills at least Four in Further Attacks on Latin American Boats
The aptly renamed United States Department of War continues their strikes on boats in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, murdering four people in two separate attacks. The death toll of “Operation Southern Spear” is at least 205 since they began targeting boats in 2025, according to AP reporting. The operation allegedly targets “narco-terrorists,” a term coined by the Trump Administration to add credibility to their extrajudicial killings of Latin American fishermen and sailors as part of their so-called “war on drug cartels.”
In December 2025, the Human Rights Watch condemned the operation against unarmed, unidentified boats, calling them illegal under international law. US officials have made no effort to identify the most recent victims, nor have they attempted to identify any of the previous victims of the extrajudicial murders.

Guatemala Rejects Reports of Planned US Military Strikes
Reports emerged this week that the Trump administration has been pushing for expanded military operations in Guatemala as part of a broader escalation of its so-called “war on drug trafficking” across Latin America. The New York Times reported that US officials had been pursuing agreements that could pave the way for joint military actions in Guatemala, citing discussions between Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Guatemalan officials.
Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo publicly denied that any agreement exists allowing US military strikes or operations on Guatemalan soil. While the Guatemalan government confirmed that it has requested military cooperation, equipment, training, and intelligence support from the United States, officials stressed that no authorization had been given for foreign military action inside the country and that such operations would require congressional approval. However, in every war fought by the US since 1942 has been done without congressional declaration of war.
At the same time, Guatemala released correspondence showing that its government is seeking expanded joint operations and military collaboration with the United States under existing security agreements. Whether or not strikes were ever formally approved, the war on drugs remains a convenient pretext for expanding US military involvement throughout Latin America.

Protests Erupt in Albania Against Trump and Kushner Luxury Development
President Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner are facing backlash from the people of Albania and environmental activists as he plans to develop a city with luxury hotels, apartments, and villas on several hundred hectares of pristine beaches on the coast of Albania. Thousands of protestors face brutality and water cannons from police and private guards as they try to stop the deforestation and excavation that has begun in the Narta Lagoon area, which is a wildlife reserve, and uninhabited island of Sazan, a communist-era military base.
Prime Minister Edi Rama supports the project and $4.6 billion investment without regard for the cultural and environmental impact. The site has long been a habitat of seals, sea turtles, and migratory birds such as flamingos. The Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has opened investigations into the 2024 decision that removed the protected status of the land. This comes on the tail of Kushner’s failure to bribe officials in Serbia to create a similar luxury resort there after corruption charges were brought against Serbian officials.

Israel Launches Offensive Deeper into Lebanon
Israel has continued to advance further into Lebanon; the Israeli military has now crossed the Litani River, and has captured suburbs of Nabatieh, a key Hezbollah stronghold in the south of Lebanon, as well as Beaufort Castle, the ruins 12th century crusader fortress, which has been in continuous use since its construction owing to its strategic position.
Israel has also begun issuing evacuation orders for Lebanese civilians living south of the Zahrani river, which lies to the north of the Litani. This is significant in that Israel’s stated objective since 2024 has been to destroy Hezbollah’s forces south of the Litani, and secure the region as a buffer zone between Hezbollah and northern Israel. Israel claimed the Intent was to push Hezbollah far enough from the border that their anti-tank guided missiles and first-person-view drones would be out of range of Israel.
Now, Israel appears to have abandoned all pretense. Israel appears intent on capturing and occupying the south of Lebanon for an extended period, if not indefinitely. Bezalel Smotrich, the Israeli Finance Minister (and a prolific genocide supporter), has called for a “permanent territorial conception” in Lebanon. Smotrich has made a habit of demanding annexations in Gaza, and it appears he may be getting his way this time.
