Supreme Court Overturns Protected Status for Haitians and Syrians but Maintains Birthright Citizenship

This week, the Supreme Court heard several major cases related to the Trump Administration’s ongoing attacks on immigrants, resulting in a major win (if temporary) for the people and a devastating ruling for hundreds of thousands of immigrants on Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Last Thursday, SCOTUS, in a 6-3 decision, overturned decisions by lower courts to retain TPS for over 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians. TPS gives these immigrants protected status to work and live in the US when dangerous conditions exist in their home countries. This ruling comes despite blatant violations of congressional standards by the Trump administration in determining the safety of these origin countries, especially in the case of Haiti. It also carries precedence for the DHS immunity against lawsuits in these kinds of TPS decisions in the future, putting over 1 million immigrants at further risk of losing legal status if and when the Trump administration decides to pursue further restrictions.

Haiti has notably been the site of various US military interventions and Structural Adjustment Programs by the World Bank and IMF, demanding widespread privatization over the years.

In lighter news, the supreme court has ruled against Trump’s ongoing attempts to eliminate birthright citizenship after a long and tortuous battle between higher and lower courts. The majority cited constitutional concerns, specifically surrounding the 14th amendment, in the 6-3 decision. Despite the ruling, the position of immigrants remains increasingly precarious in the US.

Death and Destruction from Venezuelan Earthquakes met with US Military Intervention instead of Aid

Last week Venezuela suffered from two back-to-back earthquakes with a death toll rising to 1,700 people with more than 5,000 injured, 12,000 have been displaced, and 50,000 missing. Venezuela’s healthcare system is collapsing under the

With President Maduro still held at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York after the US abducted him, the interim government lead by the Maduro ally Delcy Rodriguez struggles to support the people suffering from these quakes. Instead of sending aid in the form of food, water, healthcare supplies, healthcare professionals, and machines needed to uncover people trapped in rubble, the US has deployed 900 military personnel to Venezuela, 800 military personnel to Puerto Rico and Curacao, two aircraft carriers, and drones.

The US has lifted some of the sanctions that have crushed the Venezuelan economy since abducting Maduro, but that has primarily meant more transactions with US companies such as an $8 billion investment from private foreign investment into the oil industry. Meanwhile, NGOs and other means of relief efforts have been hampered and supply chains to transport that aid have collapsed.

This deployment of US military resources and increase in US business transactions are means to ensure that the US can continue to control and occupy the country and maintain it as a central location for the US strategy for domination in South America.

Committee to Protect Journalists Capitulates to Zionist Lobby by Firing Board Member and Erasing Slain Palestinian Journalists

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has come under fire for capitulating to the Israeli lobby. CPJ has been considered a reputable source for statistics regarding the deaths of journalists, especially since Israel has been targeting and killing Palestinian and Lebanese reporters with impunity over the past 2 years.

In May, The New York Times published a sobering op-ed “The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians” by Nicholas Kristof, a journalist reporting from the West Bank. The in-depth piece references formal reports by the UN and various NGOs, interviews with formerly-imprisoned Palestinians and lawyers who have represented them, Israel-based human rights groups, and a survey of dozens of Palestinian journalists by The Committee to Protect Journalists, who he calls “a respected American organization.”

After its publication, right-wing media outlet The Washington Free Beacon published an article calling out CPJ, one of its board members, Dr. Nika Soon-Shiong, and their “anti-Israel” sentiments. Adam Kredo, a vocal Zionist and senior writer for the Free Beacon, whose tagline is “covering the enemies of freedom the way the mainstream media won’t,” penned the piece, which claims the New York Times exposé on Israel’s systematic rape and torture of imprisoned Palestinians is a farce.

Sunday, Mohammed El-Kurd reported on the result of the subsequent “cowardly witch-hunt” that ensued after Kredo’s tantrum on behalf of the Israeli lobby, exposing the change the CPJ Board was implementing, to “formally change its definition of who qualifies as a journalist, to broadly exclude slain Palestinian and Lebanese journalists who worked for government-funded media outlets.”

Zionist arguments and the “terrorist” label aim to delegitimize Palestinian journalists’ identities. By using this strategy, when Israeli war crimes are being exposed, every victim and journalist are deemed a “militant,” thus deserving crimes against humanity inflicted upon them, per their genocidal logic.

El-Kurd pointed out how “Israeli, American, and Ukrainian journalists who work for state-funded outlets or are embedded with the military will remain recognized as journalists, of course.”

The next day, Drop Site News reporter and CPJ Board Member, Dr. Nika Soon-Shiong, revealed that she had been kicked off the Board one day after sending an email in which she called for a formal vote to approve or deny the proposal to review the list of 259 journalists killed in Gaza, and questioned its objective; the list previously featured 276 names, before over a dozen Palestinian reporters were quietly removed in the past few months.

More information is steadily being revealed, with whistleblowers inside The Committee to Protect Journalists, claiming CEO Jodie Ginsberg has been bending the knee to pro-Israel donors. When asked about Dr. Soon-Shiong’s departure from the Board, CPJ responded that the end of her 5 year term just happened to coincide with this breaking news.

Anti-ICE Protesters Sentenced to Decades in Prison

Nine anti-ICE protesters known as the “Prairieland Nine” were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 30 to 100 years following a July 4, 2025 protest outside the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. During the demonstration, a police officer was shot and wounded. Prosecutors argued that nine activists were part of a single criminal conspiracy, relying on encrypted Signal chats, planning meetings, political literature, and other evidence of political association to charge the group under Texas terrorism and organized crime statutes. Several defendants who neither fired a weapon nor injured anyone received decades-long prison sentences.

Among those sentenced was Daniel Sanchez-Estrada, who received 30 years in prison despite not being present at the protest. Prosecutors accused him of participating in the supposed conspiracy by moving a box of anti-fascist zines and political literature after his wife’s arrest. During the trial, prosecutors also introduced encrypted Signal messages, anti-fascist literature, patches, participation in a left-wing book club, and attendance at the protest itself as evidence that the defendants belonged to an “antifa terror cell.”

“Antifa” is not an organization, nor does it have members. This targeting of people who oppose fascism follows the legacy of policies from Joe Biden’s presidency that declared those who opposed capitalism and US government institutions were domestic terrorists who needed to be targeted. By treating attendance at a protest, political beliefs, political association, and anti-fascist literature as evidence of participation in a terrorist conspiracy, the prosecution establishes a precedent that expands the state’s ability to criminalize dissent through conspiracy and terrorism statutes.

UK Prime Minister Resignation Speech Highlights UK-US Parallels of Political Terror

On June 22nd, Keir Starmer announced he was resigning from the position of prime minister of the United Kingdom. In his speech, he claims he saved the UK Labour party from being “politically, financially and morally bankrupt.” Despite this, he boasts about examples of his government being politically, financially, and morally bankrupt throughout his speech with stark parallels to the US government.

The political bankruptcy of Keir Starmer’s government is clear when he brags about “ripping out the poison of antisemitism.” In practice, his government did nothing to address discrimination against Jewish people. What he really is bragging about is the large-scale government repression of anti-imperialist activists. Under the direction of Starmer’s hand-picked then-Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, the UK government proscribed Palestine Action as a terrorist group in June 2025. Palestine Action is a group that targeted and sabotaged factories operating in the UK that were sending weapons to the Israeli Defense Force, the military attack dog of the US actively committing horrors upon millions of people in Palestine. The UK Court of Appeal upheld this proscription in mid-June 2026, citing that Palestine Action’s “threats to property” constituted terrorism. The government of the UK has decided and repeatedly affirmed that the people trying to stop Israel’s genocidal assaults were terrorists, instead of the force committing the murders.

Any support for Palestine Action was met with fierce repression, leading to over 1,500 arrests under “terrorism” charges. The Filton Four, a group of people operating under the Palestine Action banner who sabotaged an Elbit Systems (Israeli-based defense manufacturing company) factory, were sentenced with terrorist connections in a sham trial by the presiding judge, despite the event occuring before the proscription of Palestine Action and the connections being completely concealed to the jury while they decided on sentencing. This political bankruptcy parallels the recent sentences ranging from 30 to 100 years given to eight people protesting against the Prairieland ICE detention facility in Texas. It is clear that the US and the UK suffer from the same political bankruptcy that Keir Starmer claimed to oppose.

As for the claims that he prevented financial bankruptcy, Starmer may have potentially improved the money-making abilities of the UK Labour Party. However, this pales in comparison to his pride in the “biggest uplift in defense spending since the Cold War.” The UK is a member of NATO and was a participant in various imperialist wars spearheaded by the United States since the end of World War 2, including during the active phase of the war against the Korean people from 1950-1953, both the Gulf War and the following “War Against Terror” in Iraq, and in Afghanistan. Every pound in the UK’s defense budget goes towards upholding the terror that US imperialism spreads around the world.

Keir Starmer’s claims that he saved the UK Labour Party from “moral bankruptcy” is the most repugnant claim of all. He brags about “small boat crossings falling” and “asylum hotels closing.” This is not because the UK has miraculously been kinder to people who are fleeing the horrific results of imperialism, but because the UK is pursuing increasing crueler policies towards them. In September 2025, the UK pursued policies that denied refugees the right to reunite with their family members and increased the time in the path for refugees to attain permanent settlement in the country. Alex Norris, Starmer’s Minister of State for Border Security and Asylum cites the closure of asylum hotels as a result of two things: “increased removals of people with no right to stay in the UK” (as apparently, fleeing terrors that the UK helps fund with their increased defense budget gives the UK’s victims “no rights to stay there”) and “moving refugees into more permanent structures like old military barracks”. This echoes the US’s repressive policies against immigrants and asylum seekers. The US Supreme Court ruled to reinstate a policy originated under Barack Obama’s administration and expanded under Donald Trump’s first administration that limited the amount of people that could apply for asylum. And now the Court has removed Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and Syrians.

On July 9th, the UK Labour party will start the process of finding a new figurehead to continue their policies of terrorizing the people of the world in conjunction with the US. It is clear that even under a different “democratic” system, the same pattern of terror against the people of the world and those who stand with them will continue. Keir Starmer asserted that under his leadership the UK’s “reputation in the world [was] restored, with Britain once again standing up for decency, respect and the rule of law.” However, the reality is that under Keir Starmer’s leadership, the UK has repeatedly shown cruelty towards the most vulnerable people and has disregarded its own sense of law. When it comes to targeting the victims of imperialism and those who stand with them, there is no end to the lengths these allied governments will go to with repressing them. This is why we must fight harder with the people of the world.
