“This is the end,” Imprisoned Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya Transferred to Interrogation Facility and Expects to be Killed by Israeli Forces
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza and pediatrician who dedicated his life to treating victims of Israel’s genocidal campaign, has recently shared with his attorney that he feels his life is severely at risk; “they brought me here to kill me. I don’t see myself surviving.”
Being imprisoned now for over 500 days, without charges, Dr. Abu Safiya has been transferred to the underground Rakefet interrogation facility in Nitzan Prison.
Kidnapped from his hospital in December 2024, where he crossed the rubble in his white coat toward Israeli soldiers with his head held high.
Since his capture, there have been clear signs of torture and maltreatment; photos depict severe weight loss, gaunt features, and visible marks of physical abuse at the hands of the IOF.
Dr. Abu Safiya’s family have just reported that he has recently been beaten in the face with a hammer and is barely recognizable due to his injuries. He shared that following a Supreme Court appeal in early June, Israeli soldiers entered his cell and physically assaulted him. There have been many instances of such acts, resulting in loss of consciousness and no medical treatment.
Physicians for Human Rights has called on Israel’s Attorney General for Dr. Abu Safiya’s “immediate transfer, an independent medical examination, and an urgent judicial visit ‘before it’s too late’,” according to Drop Site News.

White Supremacist Organization Patriot Front Marches through DC Streets
Patriot Front, a white nationalist organization, took to the DC streets to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Hundreds of them marched on DC, holding confederate flags and chanting “reclaim America.” The police reported they “tracked Patriot Front’s first amendment activities,” according to Reuters coverage. A spokeswoman for the DC police said on the matter, “MPD recognizes the rights of individuals to peacefully express their views and remains committed to maintaining public safety and security for D.C. residents and visitors.” They made no arrests, and reported no complaints filed over the white supremacist organization’s march. MPD’s hands-off approach towards Patriot Front stands in stark contrast to their responses to the seven arrests and eighteen police reports over allegedly touching the Reflection Pool. To celebrate the US’ 250th birthday, police enabled the presence of white supremacists, all while they continue to march in lockstep with the administration’s increasingly ridiculous and misanthropic demands.
US-Backed “Humanitarian Zone” Plan Would Concentrate Gaza’s Surviving Population
Reuters reported last week that the Trump-backed “Board of Peace” is preparing a pilot “humanitarian zone” in southern Gaza that would place tens of thousands of Palestinians under the administration of a US-backed governing body and an International Stabilization Force (ISF). According to a Board of Peace official, the pilot project would serve as a model for a broader postwar system while Israel continues expanding its military control over Gaza.
Novara Media, citing Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, reported that the first pilot site is expected to open in Tel al-Sultan near Rafah, where surviving Palestinians would be screened before entering enclosed humanitarian zones administered by the ISF. According to the report, residents would receive food, medical care, and temporary housing inside the designated areas.
The reported plans closely resemble a proposal revealed by Reuters last year describing large-scale “Humanitarian Transit Areas” for Palestinians in Gaza. Taken together, the reports suggest that so-called humanitarian aid is being incorporated into a broader strategy of concentrating Gaza’s surviving population into controlled zones as Israel expands its military grip over the territory.

DEA Pressures Mexican Officials to Become Informants
The DEA and US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, have been pursing charges on corruption against 10 Mexican officials. An unsealed indictment released April 29th of this year alleged that the governor of Sinaloa and other officials had accepted bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel to secure electoral victories. The Mexican government noted that requests for extradition “did not contain sufficient evidence to establish the responsibility of the individuals,” and has since denied the charges.
Now, as of late June, the New York Times has reported “at least a dozen” Mexican officials, including from the governing Morena party, have come forward to share information about fellow politicians. This follows a renewed effort from the DEA to personally contact Mexican officials, urging them to become informants in an escalating campaign. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has remained staunchly opposed to US requests for the arrest or extradition of accused officials. She has questioned the sincerity of US “concerns” for fighting organized crime. In fact, the US has directly threatened military incursions into Mexico under the pretense of fighting cartels and already carried out unsanctioned activity in Chihuahua.
This development is especially noteworthy given Mexico’s political position in Latin America. Sheinbaum’s administration remains one of the few progressive holdouts in the Americas, a position that is jeopardized by escalating conflict within the Morena party. It is well within the interest of US imperialism to stoke these flames, and is reflective of the US’ playbook in the region.
